Ready to master the knowledge of an all-electric vehicle: Hyundai IONIQ 5? We’ve got you covered.
As the 5th largest automobile manufacturer in the world, Hyundai is aware of the fact that the New World is electric. So, it aims for faster charging, higher range, wider car interior and better handling in the vehicles produced with its name. In this article, you will understand; how many of these have been achieved by Hyundai with its award-winning car IONIQ 5.
In addition to being one of the electric cars in which Hyundai has made a big investment, the IONIQ 5, also stands out as the first vehicle designed on the Electric Global Modular Platform E-GMP (see the infobox below). The IONIQ 5 is actually a mass production version of Hyundai’s concept vehicle; Project 45. And it has a triple win at the 2022 World Car Awards (WCA).
Hyundai IONIQ 5 took the “World Car Design of the Year” award in the design category, the “World Electric Vehicle of the Year” award in the electric cars category, and the “World Car of the Year” award in the cars category in general, to its home, Hyundai Motors.
What is E-GMP?
Electric vehicles have become key drivers shaping the roadmap of auto companies. Hyundai E-GMP is a dedicated battery electric vehicle platform for Hyundai Motor Group automobiles. Hyundai states that its announced E-GMP electric vehicle platform will form the basis of the global future of Hyundai and Kia.
Hyundai plans to use the new E-GMP platform in all 23 new models it plans to produce by 2025. Optimized according to the expectations and needs of its customers, the new platform prioritizes driving dynamics and modularization. This new platform, which offers the world’s first multi-charging (400V / 800V) and bidirectional power conversion function, was developed exclusively for BEV vehicles. E-GMP, which offers more advantages compared to the platforms of existing internal combustion engine vehicles, has features such as driving performance, safety equipment, flexible battery placement, more living and luggage space. Hyundai claims that the smaller components of the E-GMP save weight and make vehicles using the platform more efficient. This also enables Hyundai to reduce the emphasis on aerodynamics and offer more attractive BEV designs.
The IONIQ 5 2022 stands out as the first production vehicle designed on Hyundai’s new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

Car of the Year, Focused on Functionality and Comfort: Hyundai IONIQ 5.
While it looks like a compact C segment SUV, the IONIQ 5 doesn’t really fit in any mold. It’s like a car ahead of its time. When you look at it in total, you are faced with a compact car. It has an extremely modern and futuristic design. It also has a minimalist feel.
Let’s get a little closer.
Exterior Design Reaching For The Future
The IONIQ 5 stands out as an icon that defines Hyundai’s design genes.
At first glance, the IONIQ 5 brings to life a distinctive exterior design, with clean and sharp lines creating an elegant and sophisticated look. The parametric pixel lights are among the most prominent design details that define the visual identity of the vehicle. State-of-the-art parametric pixel LED headlights are integrated into both the front and rear of the vehicle.
The image of the car is so futuristic that it seems to refer to what future cars will look like, from today.

In order to increase the aerodynamics of the vehicle, there is a slotted spoiler at the top of the rear. In this way, it resembles a race car.
The headlights that stand out with their unique rectangular form, the steeply inclined C-pillar, the stylish roofline and the dynamically designed windows give this BEV a sporty look.
And the sporty look continues with the wheels and fender. 20-inch wheels (10-inch options are also available) with aerodynamics are the largest wheels used by Hyundai on its electric models. Symmetrical details on the fender match the rim design.
When you view the car from the side, the most striking detail appears as its Z-shaped design.
In addition, we must say that the door handles are very stylish. They are recessed. When you approach the car with the key, the door handles open automatically, and when you move away, they close.
The part that includes the A, B and C pillars is glossy black.
At the rear is a 531-liter trunk. There is also a 57-liter front trunk.
In general, there is not much detail in the exterior design of the vehicle. IONIQ 5 has a modern, stylish, futuristic and at the same time extremely minimalist exterior design.
Enjoy the E-Mobility Experience with an Customizable Interior Design
With its spacious and customizable interior design, Hyundai IONIQ 5 makes you feel at home in a way.
Spacious and Modular
The IONIQ 5’s panoramic glass roof, consisting of a large glass panel without any support material, gives the interior a more open and spacious feel.
The E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) used in the interior design of the IONIQ 5, enables the components to be modularized, thus helping to maximize the interior.
There is no shaft tunnel in the middle which makes the front of the car wider and airy. The openable armrest also offers a large storage area and there is an extremely useful glove box as a drawer format. These two design featıres create quite a large area for the users to store various items.
There is an innovative, movable center console that can be slid back by up to 140mm which provides ease of use for both driver and passengers. The console has a wireless charging port as well as a USB charging port on it.
The wheelbase of Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 3 meters. Extremely long.
Unique Design Details
IONIQ 5 doesn’t have a door handle inside. When you sit on the seat and try to close the door, your hand may be empty. But there is a gap between the armrest and the door, you can pull the door from there. Again, an original and stylish design detail, that supports the total minimalist design of the BEV.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 offers a stylish and modular magnetic dashboard with a high-tech look. There is a dual integrated display consisting of a 12.25-inch digital dashboard and a fully-touch 12.25-inch infotainment screen. These two screens, which are never eye-catching with their white background and are mounted in one piece, add an innovative and futuristic feel to IONIQ 5.
Personalized Comfort
The designers of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 seem to have put a lot of effort into letting you create a world of your own, inside the vehicle.
The front seats recline fully. With the seat relaxation feature, they offer the pleasure of high level comfort. The seats that lean back at the optimum angle make the occupant feel lighter.
Electric sliding rear seats enable a high level of comfort for the rear passengers. They can be moved backwards or forwards up to 135 mm electrically and can also be reclined manually. (This way, you can increase the luggage capacity)
Sunshades in the car can optionally come out of the windows.
Green and Sustainable IONIQ 5
The IONIQ 5 also adopts environmentalism, which appears to be a common understanding in the electric vehicle market. In fact, Hyundai escalates it almost to a social responsibility dimension with IONIQ 5. The sustainability approach, which stands out with its environmentally friendly materials and colors inspired by nature, is at the center of the IONIQ brand vision.
We can say that IONIQ 5 has a vegan design. Surfaces such as the dashboard, buttons, steering wheel and door panels are covered with plant-based bio-paint.
The seat, headliner and carpet materials, as well as the leather coverings in the interior design, are also produced entirely from herbal raw materials. In fact, on Hyundai’s own website, the environmentally friendly fabrics used in the design of IONIQ 5 are described as follows:
“Up to 32 plastic bottles are shredded into plastic chips. These chips are melted and spun into threads that makes an inviting woven upholstery fabric. The fabric made from recycled PET bottles are used on the seats and door armrests.”
With the IONIQ 5, Hyundai is not only thinking about a sustainable world order, but also taking action to achieve it. It regulates its effects on the environment not only by producing emission-free vehicles, but also by using mobility solutions that reach higher eco-consciousness in the design of this electric vehicle.
A BEV Benefiting from the Blessings of Technology
Incorporating Hyundai’s smartest technology, the IONIQ 5, reaches a driving range of up to 430 kilometers with its rear-wheel drive and long-range battery. With its adjustable regenerative braking feature, the brake paddles allow you to adjust the level of regenerative braking, which uses an electric motor to charge the battery while slowing the vehicle. This maximizes the driving range.
IONIQ 5, which reaches 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds with its all-wheel drive model, offers a sporty acceleration experience.
In addition to a top speed of 185 km/h, the IONIQ 5 promises remarkable driving dynamics and sporty performance.
